Okay, so this question passed across my dash on Tumblr the other day: We have 2 modern retellings of Sherlock Holmes (tv shows). Why not The Three Musketeers?? I'm sure it can be done! (As it has been done in fan fiction A LOT.) Let's plot!! :D What would be your version of The Three Musketeers in modern time? Elite police task force? Undercover agents (this is my fav)? Or just a group of misfits? TELL ME!

And it got me thinking. What kind of show would that story be, if re-told in a modern setting?

And...I know Sue probably won't agree, but the inescapable conclusion I came to was: The Professionals! The Musketeers in a modern setting would totally be The Professionals, of course it would. I mean, think about it: slightly maverick law enforcement department whose brief is much wider than that of the police, a body of elite special agents recruited as the best of the best, dealing with anything and everything from spies to terrorists to protection details, and using sometimes unorthodox methods to fight fire with fire. Gruff departmental controller who must navigate the murky world of political intrigue in order to do his job. Devoted brotherhood of agents putting their lives on the line daily and willing to do just about anything for one another. Action-packed show full of banter, drama, humour and emotion. The parallels are all there!

No wonder I love both shows so much. :D

This behind-the-scenes pic is what they'd look like as modern-type agents:

The AU practically writes itself! (But don't worry, I'm not gonna!)

LOL!
Well I'll have to take your word for it because, obviously, I've not seen the Musketeers. I watched the first episode and it just didn't grab me; can't really say why, perhaps I should have perservered with it but there are always so many other programmes demanding attention. But then other buddy shows haven't always grabbed me either - In Deep and the BBC1 drama from last year that I watched but have now even forgotten the name of.
So really I think it just shows even more how much the chemistry between Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins made The Professionals so very watchable.

Hee, I know, that's why I thought of you when I was replying to the post on Tumblr and had to mention you here! Although I will say that the Musketeers actors all have fabulous chemistry as well - personally, I absolutely believe in their bond from ep 1, but I know we'll never agree on this point. *G*

Maybe you'd like it more if I *did* re-write it as Pros for the modern era...*G*

(With bonus grizzled old man Doyle thrown in for good measure, of course)

New New Pros :)

I'm quite sure if you wrote it, I'd believe in it.

Well now you've got me wanting to go away and sketch it out, at the very least! As if I didn't have enough unfinished projects on the go...*G*

I'll have to dig out that 'modern day relaunch of Pros' scenario I remember sketching out in an email to you ages ago. And maybe look through our recent episode reviews, I know we came up with a few 'how would this work in a modern show' scenarios in those, but I was an idiot and didn't keep a note of them...

Dammit, another project!
