Okay, I think I've got this out of my system now...I may not have liked these episodes much, but they certainly inspired me!

Title: Smoke and Mirrors
Show: Doctor Who
Characters: Harry Sullivan, Sarah Jane Smith
Spoilers: The Zygon Invasion / The Zygon Inversion
Summary: Companion piece to Z-67. The Doctor has asked for a favour; Harry and Sarah discuss over dessert
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: The Doctor, his TARDIS and his companions belong to the BBC. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.

Also archived at A03 | Teaspoon
llywela: (DW-4-team)
Summary: All together aboard the TARDIS once more, Sarah's feeling complacent about life as a time traveller, Harry's in denial, and the Doctor is only too glad of an excuse not to return to Earth when a distress call takes the trio to a remote planet at the far edge of the universe, where an isolated survey team has fallen prey to a mysterious malevolent force.

Title: The Planet at the End of the Universe
Show: Classic Doctor Who
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 48,888 - 8/8 chapters, complete
Disclaimer: Not so much alternate universe as universe alteration, this story is (very) loosely based on the season 13 serial Planet of Evil, written by Louis Marks – a re-imagining of what it might have been like if Harry had returned to the TARDIS instead of staying on Earth at the end of the previous adventure. All characters herein belong to the BBC, along with the original concept and anything else that seems familiar. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.
Author's Note: Although loosely based on Planet of Evil, this is not actually a re-telling of that story, partly because adding another companion alters both the dynamic and the flow of events, but mainly because although the Doctor and Sarah are as cute as all heck in Planet of Evil, I've never been overly fond of the story itself, so here I've simply taken the core concept and constructed a new plot on top of it.

The story can be read at AO3 or at Whofic.com

Word count: 2,173
Summary: Sarah asks Harry for a favour; a meandering bit of fluff with a sting in its tail
Disclaimer: All characters herein belong to the BBC. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.

I have committed fic! Just a cute little short story this time, though, 7000 words.

Title: Lost Property
Show: Classic Doctor Who
Characters: Fourth Doctor, Harry Sullivan, Leela, Sergeant-Major Benton. Honourable mentions for a few others
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: The Doctor, his TARDIS and his companions belong to the BBC. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.
Summary: An average, hectic day at UNIT for Harry Sullivan takes a turn for the bewildering when the Doctor unexpectedly drops by with a strange new companion in tow
Author's Note: This story was inspired by a discussion that I read on an internet forum. Someone had posted a series of comical dialogue fragments imagining how Harry and Leela might have interacted, had they ever met: the polite English gentleman and the savage warrior woman. It was amusing enough to tickle my imagination – I wanted context for such dialogue and started to wonder about a scenario in which these two very different companions might possibly meet. That concept was the inspiration for this story, but is not what the story is actually about.
With thanks to Sue for coming up with the title that was staring me in the face.

One of the things I've had occupying my mind for the last few months has been a writing project - a Doctor Who story. It came out of nowhere and then ate my brain, and all because I enjoyed the too-short season that the Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Harry spent together and wanted to see them interacting a bit more and sharing more adventures together. It kind of grew from there. I'm still kind of just easing back into the whole creative writing malarkey, so I wanted a very simple plot that would allow me to practice trying to capture the character voices - that would allow me to delve into and explore the characters and their interactions and group dynamics, that would keep them moving and thinking and making choices and bouncing off one another, learning more about each other and about themselves and what they're capable of, a situation they could become fully immersed in, in a way that rarely seems to happen with Doctor Who these days.

So I wrote this story and hope it works - I'm pleased with how it's turned out. It may not be the most exciting or dramatic sci fi plot ever, but it does what I wanted to for the characters. Sarah's journey through the story is all about resilience, about digging deep, stepping up and taking responsibility, whether equipped for the task or not. Harry's is about assessing his time with the Doctor and what he's gained from it. And as for the Doctor...well, this is all in a day's work for him.

I have committed fic! Big time fic - this has been eating my brain all summer, and I'm pretty sure I could go on tweaking it for the rest of the year, but I need my life back so I'm just going to publish and be damned. *G*

It's a classic Doctor Who story, casefile, so it's posted over at my other journal, I'll just link to it here.

Title: Life Goes On
Author: Me!
Show: Classic Doctor Who
Characters: ensemble – Liz Shaw, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Sergeant-Major Benton
Rating: PG
Spoilers: This story is set some time after the Doctor left Sarah on Earth at the end of The Hand of Fear.
Wordcount: 49,541 - complete
Disclaimer: UNIT and all characters connected therein belong to the BBC. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.
Summary: Case-file. The Doctor has left UNIT…but life goes on without him and so do extra-terrestrial incursions. When mysterious fissures appear and unidentified aliens attack, Liz Shaw finds herself drawn back to UNIT after an absence of several years, while a newly returned Sarah Jane Smith is wondering what the future holds for her, now that her dearest friend has left her behind.
Author's Note: This story comes from more or less exactly the same place as the BtVS Wishverse fic I wrote a few years ago - apparently I have a bit of a thing for removing the hero of a show so that the sidekicks can step up and be heroes in their own right!
Acknowledgements: with thanks to Sue

Part One
Having put her time at UNIT behind her, Liz Shaw is furious at being dragged back to assist with a new investigation. Surprised to learn of the Doctor's departure, she slowly begins to change her mind as her interest in the case is piqued - but then disaster strikes
Part Two
As UNIT regroup after the alien attack, Sarah struggles to find a role in the investigation, while Liz and Harry attempt to escape from their alien captors
Part Three
While Liz learns what the aliens are up to, Sarah brainstorms with the Brigadier back at UNIT, but then the approach of another alien spaceship throws everyone onto alert
Part Four
Liz and Harry manage to escape at last, while Sarah takes matters into her own hands - with unexpected consequences
Part Five
Sarah and Harry have been thrown into the past with no way home, how will they cope? Meanwhile back at UNIT, Liz is the only person who stands any chance of saving them, but how will she handle the pressure?
Part Six
Trapped in the past, Sarah confides in Harry as they struggle to keep their spirits up, while Liz's attempt at retrieving them is interrupted by another alien attack - will UNIT get their defences in place in time?
Part Seven
As Liz saves the day, there is time for reflection: what does the future hold now?
Epilogue
Life goes on...

Fic! Ask me not where this came from, for I have not the foggiest...

Show: crossover – The Professionals and classic Doctor Who
Author: Llywela13
Characters: Ray Doyle, William Bodie, Dr Harry Sullivan, George Cowley, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Sergeant-Major Benton
Spoilers/Warnings: This story assumes all readers will be familiar with both CI5 and UNIT. It is set sometime after Doctor Who 13.01 Terror of the Zygons (Fourth Doctor era), and somewhere around season 1/2 of The Professionals. The Doctor himself does not appear in this story.
Wordcount: 31,345
Disclaimer: CI5 and all characters connected therein belong to Mark 1 Productions. UNIT and all characters connected therein belong to the BBC. I have borrowed them for this story and am making no profit from this.
Summary: CI5 and UNIT would have been around at about the same time in the late 1970s. CI5 weren't keen on other agencies treading over their perceived jurisdiction and UNIT were learning to cope without the Doctor after his departure. So what happened when they found their investigations overlapping?
Author's Note: Nothing deep or meaningful here, this is a straight-up case story. Being an intra-genre crossover, it is leaning toward crack fiction, from a Pros perspective, I know, but it's crack fiction that takes itself seriously, grounding UNIT within the Pros 'verse and playing the story completely straight. Just go with it, 'kay?
Acknowledgements: There is no one I can blame for this except me. But Sue egged me on.

Have actually written some fic. All blame for this is attached to [livejournal.com profile] joe_sweden, who nagged me until I caved and started writing.

This is a Doctor Who/Rome crossover. Have never written for either fandom before, so I hope the characters read okay. The perspective is from the Doctor Who characters; no knowledge of Rome is required before reading this story.

Disclaimer: Not a single one of these characters or scenarios belongs to me, alas. This story slots in between The Doctor Dances and Boomtown in season one of Doctor Who, and during the Rome season one episode Utica. A chunk of dialogue during the dinner scene is drawn directly from the transcript of Utica, with apologies to the writers and programme makers for taking such liberties with their work.

This is for [livejournal.com profile] joe_sweden, because she told me to do it and then for some reason I did. The prompt was: 'write a fic about the Doctor, Jack and Rose meeting Julius Caesar and being invited to dinner (courtesy of some psychic paper shenanigans) with him and Brutus. Bonus points if you get an "et tu Brute" joke in there.' This is probably not quite what she had in mind…

Hope no one's expecting much in the way of plot out of this one, beyond the Who basics of 'land, poke around a bit, and then leave again'.
